Silver Dancer Director
Kate Ables was born and raised in the Austin area and has been dancing since the age of three. She began her dance training with various studios in Austin and was a part of the competition team at Alisa’s Dance Academy. While in high school Ms. Ables served as a Junior Social Officer and Senior Lieutenant for the James Bowie High School Silver Stars under the direction of Jennifer Dawson, Bethany Dudley, and Casey Baker.
Ms. Ables attended Texas A&M University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Health Education. While at Texas A&M, Ms. Ables was involved in several organizations including the student directed dance organization, Dance Arts Society. She also served as the Vice President of Membership for Delta Gamma Sorority, and enjoyed the four years she spent working with the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.
Upon completing her degree plan at Texas A&M, Ms. Ables spent her student teaching semester at McCallum High School in Austin.
During her time at McCallum, Ms. Ables was able to work with the Blue Brigade
Drill Team under the direction of Nancy Honeycutt, where she choreographed and
guest directed for the team.
Ms. Ables is honored to be starting her fifth year at Hendrickson High School, and feels so fortunate to be able to lead the wonderful young ladies a part of the Silver Dancer organization alongside Ms. Gregory.
During her time at Texas State, Ms. Gregory became a member of Orchesis Dance Company. She served as Associate Artistic Director her junior year and lead the company as Artistic Director her senior year. Ms. Gregory was also a member of Merge Dance Company, the pre-professional modern company at Texas State. In the summer of 2013, Ms. Gregory became a staff member for Crowd Pleasers Dance Company, and has had the opportunity to travel and teach Drill Teams all across Texas during each summer. Ms. Gregory also worked at both The Element Dance Center and New Braunfels Dance and Company, where she had the opportunity to teach students of all ages in various dance styles. Of all aspects of teaching dance, Ms. Gregory loves choreographing the most. She has choreographed for many high schools in the greater Austin area, and has even won scholarship awards for her choreography within the Texas State dance department. At the end of her college career, Ms. Gregory had the privilege of student teaching at Hendrickson High School with Bethany Dudley under the supervision of Denise Cochran.
Ms. Gregory graduated from Texas State University in 2016 with her BFA in Dance Education, and began working at Cedar Ridge High School as a Visual and Performing Arts Academy dance teacher and Royalty assistant director. During her two years at Cedar Ridge, Ms. Gregory also created and directed Cedar Ridge’s Ensemble Dance Team, Nobility.
Ms. Gregory is beyond excited to return to Hendrickson, now as a dance teacher and assistant director for the Silver Dancers! She is committed to continuing the high level of excellence established throughout both the dance department and Silver Dancers and cannot wait to become a member of the Hawk family!
